Friendsof Claverley Church

Friends of Claverley Church was created in October 2019 and is a registered charity (No 1185062)
The Friends exist to help maintain this iconic, Grade I listed building, to safeguard it for future generations. Until now, the cost has been borne by the Church of All Saints, with occasional grants from individuals, public bodies and charitable trusts.
We hope that others, both within the surrounding area and from further afield, would like to help.

HISTORY OF OUR LOGO

The double cross which forms our logo was designed by our hugely talented Captain of bell ringers, and the original consecration crosses can be found in two places in the church - one near to the altar, and one at the back of the church (currently covered by the map of the churchyard).  Consecration crosses are crosses on the interior walls and exterior architecture of a Christian church or cathedral showing where the bishop has anointed the church with chrism or holy water in order to consecrate it. Our double cross indicates that the church was consecrated twice denoting that the building was rebuilt or changed twice.  Indeed, there might be up to twelve painted crosses high on plaster walls within a church, and others engraved outside on door frames, pillars or corners. However this depends on the era, the form of Christianity, the ritual used, and the form of the building.

WHAT YOU GET FOR MEMBERSHIP

REGULAR UPDATES ON EVENTS

Our fundraising events are spread throughout the year, and appeal to a wide rage of  interests, from cars to flowers, dining to music lovers.  Please check our Events page for further information!

Regular updates on history of the church

All Saints has been the subject of a Church Recording by The Arts Society Wrekin, where volunteers catalogue and investigate all the artifacts, art and objects in and around the Church.  This has provided a wealth of fascinating vignettes on the way the church developed over the last 1000 years.  We expect to bring you regular updates on these.

Link to Memories Society

We have a thriving Memories Society in Claverley who are expert in researching family history, military history and local history.  Just send us your request and we will happily pass it on to our friends in the Memories Society for their input.  Recent research has discovered Claverley had a connection to Darwin, and we have one of only 12 known graves in Shropshire of a Waterloo veteran.

Annual reports and Restoration Projects

We will send an annual report, along with details of the renovation projects completed, and those yet to be started, which are made possible through the generous support of our Friends, and members of the community.
